The 45th GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON was a race of records. Amanal Petros improved the German record in an incredible race, finishing in 59:22 minutes. The by far largest and most spectacular German half marathon was completed by a total of 37,355 athletes—more than ever before. Among them, a record 44.9 percent were women. At the 45th GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARA- THON, Esther Pfeiffer celebrated the greatest success of her career as the fastest German (and European). Finishing in an excellent fifth place, she set a personal best of 67:25 minutes. The Düsseldorf Athletics runner is just as thrilled about this achievement as she is about her husband Hendrik’s “I Love Races Like This” performance, who missed his personal best by only five seconds with a time of 61:33 at the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON. Here, Esther Pfeiffer shares how they both managed this despite dealing with colds beforehand—and looks ahead to the marathon season this autumn, when she will run her first professionally prepared marathon.
