2026: Review

The 45th GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON was a race of records. Amanal Petros improved the German record in an incredible race, finishing in 59:22 minutes. The by far largest and most spectacular German half marathon was completed by a total of 37,355 athletes—more than ever before. Among them, a record 44.9 percent were women. While Hendrik will race in Boston in April, I’m already preparing for my first properly planned marathon in the autumn. “I like to start risky” I don’t yet know exactly whether that will be the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON on September 27. I plan my races based on my cycle, because there are simply days in the month when I’m not as strong. I ran 42.195 kilometers once before in 2023, winning in Cologne in 2:37:00. But that was my first full season as a road runner, and I hadn’t specifically prepared for that race—I just wanted to get a taste of the marathon. Before that, I had specialized in shorter track distances from 800 to 1,500 meters. For my next marathon, I will approach it in a completely different condition with professional preparation. And if I develop as planned by autumn and my form is right, I would start the marathon aggressively—just like I did the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON. With 67:25 in my legs, I can safely run the first 21.1 kilometers of the marathon in around 70 minutes or slightly faster. And what that could lead to is easy to calculate…
