The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON was the first really big running event in Germany after the long Corona break. More than 15,000 participants participated in the 21.0975 km race on August 22, 2021. Because everyone was either vaccinated against Covid19, recovered from the disease, or had proof of a negative PCR test, the run was also a safe event along a super-fast course that passed all the major landmarks—with the start and finish close to the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column. Thanks to a sophisticated hygiene and safety concept, the event was on, despite the ongoing pandemic. 15,096 athletes from 130 nations took to the starting line, including 14,508 runners of whom 13,279 in turn reached the finish line. With these numbers, the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON was the largest race in the world at this time. The Nagoya Marathon and Half Marathon had around 14,000 participants in the spring. In addition, a 10K race in London a few weeks ago was of a similar scale.
