2021: Preview

#restartrunning: The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON is the first really big running event in Germany after the long Corona break. More than 25,000 participants are expected to run the 21.0975 kilometres on August 22, 2021. Because all of them will either have been vaccinated against Covid19, have recovered from the disease or have demonstrated through PCR tests not to be currently infected, the run will also be a safe affair. You can expect a super-fast loop course that takes you past all the major sights - with the start and finish in the immediate vicinity of the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column. In this digital magazine, you'll find all the important information about the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON 2021, when the race celebrates its 40th birthday.

After the 1982 Peace

After the 1982 Peace Run, Klaus Goldammer gave the first interviews as the winner This is what the race numbers from the forerunner of the BERLIN HALF MARATHON looked like. - 31 -

In 1984, the start of the Peace Run was moved to Lenin Square (today: United Nations Square), and it was the second largest running event in the GDR after the famous Rennsteiglauf in 1981, the East Berlin couple Klaus and Ute Goldammer took the top spots in the marathon. Klaus Goldammer, however, crossed the finish hand-in-hand with Roland Winkler at 2:23:47 hours, after neither could break away during the race. This caused confusion among the judges. This quite usual sportive gesture (except at championships) was not planned, and after all, only one Berlin (teddy) bear was planned for one female and one male winner.
