What an amazing GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON we experienced on April 7, 2019. Under the best spring weather conditions, 29,757 runners and inline skaters completed the 21.0975 kilometres to the new finish at the Brandenburg Gate, after enjoying a fantastic sightseeing tour of the capital. Although Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands missed the women's targeted world record, she delivered a new course record in a strong 65:45 minutes. And Richard Ringer led the tough field of German runners, completing his first half marathon in 62:10 minutes to finish seventh. Strong German elite runners Half a dozen personal bests German elite runners clocked half a dozen personal bests in the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON. Richard Ringer was the athlete very much in the focus. Running his debut obviously he only had to finish for a first half marathon personal best. However he did so in style and produced the best result by a German in Berlin. Ringer finished in seventh place and with his time of 1:02:10 he became the tenth fastest German half marathon runner ever. “I was running well and the pacemakers did a very good job. However I then lost some time between 15 and 20k. I wanted to run a bit faster to get a sub 1:02 debut time, but I could not,“ said Richard Ringer, who plans to run his marathon debut after the Olympic Games in 2020. “I am not fully in road running yet.“ Finishing just two places behind Ringer in 9th position Amanal Petros showed a fine performance. With 1:02:32 he improved his half marathon debut time from Verona two months earlier by exactly one 50
Amanal Petros showed a fine performance minute. Petros moved up the German alltime list into 12th position. Due to an illness in the build up to the race Philipp Pflieger had to be content with 15th place in 1:04:22. Marcus Schöfisch had the same problem some weeks before the Generali Berlin Half Marathon. He only managed a time of 1:08:45 and finished in 39th place. However Fabian Clarkson, who competes for the Berlin elite team SCC EVENTS PRO TEAM, which was set up by the race organiser last year, ran a personal best of 1:05:52. He took 20th position. 51
