What an amazing GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON we experienced on April 7, 2019. Under the best spring weather conditions, 29,757 runners and inline skaters completed the 21.0975 kilometres to the new finish at the Brandenburg Gate, after enjoying a fantastic sightseeing tour of the capital. Although Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands missed the women's targeted world record, she delivered a new course record in a strong 65:45 minutes. And Richard Ringer led the tough field of German runners, completing his first half marathon in 62:10 minutes to finish seventh. Boom, boom, boom. I hear
Boom, boom, boom. I hear music familiar to me from the BMW BERLIN MARATHON coming from the loudspeakers. The top athletes are about to be introduced. Cheers break out, applause for everyone. It is about to start. Three. Two. One. A swarm of bright red balloons rises up into the sky directly at the starting arc. I‘m standing about two or three hundred metres behind in starting block C. My heart is pounding. Always stronger. I am off. The journey through Berlin. The organizers of the SCC EVENTS promised a 21.0975-kilometre sightseeing tour of the German capital at the press conference. I know Berlin, have already run the marathon three times, and yet I‘m curious what to expect. New this year: the start and finish area has been moved from Alexanderplatz to the Brandenburg Gate, which is about three kilometres away. Memories of the marathon come up. The weather is at its best.
